Hey AC readers! My name is Kelsey and today is my second day interning at AC—a pretty big step for me since I’m coming all the way to New York City from a small town in Ohio! I grew up cheering and can still remember the first day I tried out for the Ravenna Rams youth football team. I also remember the first time I found out about AC. My dad saw the magazine at a local dentist office and when he brought it home to me, I was ecstatic! I couldn’t believe there was a magazine dedicated exclusively to all things cheerleading. Needless to say, AC became my new best friend! 

Do you remember how you felt the first time you were going to throw your first back handspring, back tuck, or even a full without a spotter? Your tumbling fate was all up to you, even though you would’ve loved a little extra support from a spotter. Maybe you were skeptical about your landing and you prayed you wouldn’t fall on your head. Or wait…maybe those were just all the thoughts running through my head before tumbling! Either way, these were also my thoughts before coming to the big city; but I took the leap and haven’t fallen on my head…yet! I’m so glad I took a chance and I know living in NYC and interning at AC will be an experience of a lifetime. 

So when something arises in life that makes you feel skeptical or scared, just relate it back to cheerleading and go for it! Don’t ever be afraid to try something new, and continue to take risks—whether it’s learning a new tumbling pass, trying out for a college squad, or doing an individual routine at competition!
