"Glee" premieres on FOX this fall.

I always get giddy whenever this time of year rolls around—and not because football season’s about to start or because I have an excuse to do some back-to-school shopping (so what if I graduated a decade ago?). No, in truth, I love the fall mostly because it means that all my favorite TV shows are starting back up! And with a new season comes new TV series. I’ve scoped out the competition and singled out a few you absolutely must tune in to see.

“Glee” on FOX
Watch it: Wednesday, Sept 9 at 9 pm
Starring: Jane Lynch, Jessalyn Gilsig, Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison and Cory Monteith
In this high school dramedy, the cheerleaders are the stars when it comes to sports (a nice change, huh?). Approaching a quarter-life crisis, high school teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) is searching for something to inspire him—and finds the glee club. After rounding up the school’s most talented singers and a popular football player, Will thinks he’s on his way to reclaiming his own glee days. Unfortunately, obstacles start to pile up, leaving him singing the blues.

Something creepy’s going on in Mystic Falls. Pretty and smart Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrey) is heading back to school after a summer of mourning the tragic loss of her parents. Luckily, there’s a cute new student, Stefan (Paul Wesley), to keep her busy. But death seems to follow Elena, and soon the obituary section of the newspaper is growing. What nobody knows is that Stefan and his brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are actually vampires—and one of them is out for blood. Here’s a show you can really sink your teeth into!

“The Beautiful Life” on The CW

Starring: Sara Paxton, Mischa Barton, Elle Macpherson, Ben Hollingsworth and Corbin Bleu
Are you obsessed with hot clothes, runway shows, high fashion and the models who strut their stuff on the runway? If so, “The Beautiful Life” is this year’s guilty pleasure. The show centers around blonde beauty Raina Collins (Sara Paxton) and sweet and innocent Chris Andrews (Ben Hollingsworth), both newcomers to the NYC modeling scene. The two quickly find out that modeling isn’t all Gucci gowns and glamorous parties—after all, it’s called the catwalk for a reason.
If you like “America’s Next Top Model” and “Gossip Girl,” you’ll love “The Beautiful Life”!

“Melrose Place” on The CW

Watch it: Tuesday, Sept 8 at 9 pm
Starring: Ashley Simpson-Wentz, Katie Cassidy and Shaun Sipos
If you’re a major drama queen, “Melrose Place” is where it’s at. A remake of the original show from the ’90s, this Hollywood hot spot boasts a whole new cast (and a few old faces) of young 20-somethings living together in a trendy apartment complex. New resident Violet Foster (Ashley Simpson-Wentz) realizes there’s never a dull moment in “MP” when a neighbor’s found dead in the apartment pool—and everyone seems to be a suspect.
If you like “Desperate Housewives” and “90210,” you’ll love “Melrose Place”!
