The Spirit Industry Trade Association (SITA) has announced the 2009 Helping Hand

Western Carolina Elite Cheer and Dance

Western Carolina Elite Cheer and Dance

recipient is Western Carolina Elite Cheer and Dance of Graham County, NC. Earlier this year, the gym experienced two floods, and co-owners Latresa Phillips and Shannon Knott needed a budgetary boost to keep their doors open and their one-year-old program afloat.

Enter SITA, whose Helping Hand program is designed to assist outstanding programs who have limited resources or are in immediate crisis. Each year, teams submit essays describing their needs. The Helping Hand committee reviews the essays and selects a team to receive a full year of assistance from SITA member companies. Teams receive uniforms, shoes, bags, camp clothes, summer camp, registration for two regional championships, registration to a national championship, registration for a coach and captain to a coaches’ conference and subscriptions to industry magazines.
