New Twilight Buzz!

September 17th, 2009 by Kathleen Hager – Comments (0)

Luckily for Twilight fans, there’s more to look forward to than the film release of New Moon this November. This time you’ll get to hear your fantasy beau’snew moon—excuse me, I mean Edward Cullen’s— panic-inducing voice profess his love for Bella over a killer soundtrack. If you’re a music nerd like me, you’ll appreciate the artist lineup that’s in the works.

According to the New York Times, Alexandra Patsavas, the film’s music supervisor (whose music chops include “Gossip Girl” and “Grey’s Anatomy”) says she’s “confident that the ‘New Moon’ soundtrack would include Thom Yorke, Bon Iver and Band of Skulls.” Speaking as a fan of each of these artists, that’s a pretty sweet taste of the talent the final product will boast.

Though not yet confirmed by Patsavas, it’s possible The Killers and Grizzy Bear (my personal fave in this potential powerhouse of a soundtrack) could also throw tracks into the vampy mix. And it makes total sense for this installment of the Twilight saga, as Patsavas points out, since “there is a lot of love lost, so the artists that are going to make up the soundtrack reflect that longing — a lot of acoustic instruments, a lot of a cappella singing.”

If you happened to catch the premiere of the movie’s first single, “Meet Me on the Equinox” by Death Cab for Cutie at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards (something other than Kanye’s embarrassing meltdown that’s worth noting), then you’ll get it. Better yet, take a listen during the last scene of Twilight (since it probably hasn’t left your DVD player since you bought it). With the sound suggestion of Kristen Stewart, my favorite Iron and Wine song, “Flightless Bird, American Mouth,” set the tone for the next wave of Twilight theme songs. You know you cried—I know you cried—so just prepare yourself for the upcoming batch of tender chord progressions, haunting melodies and poignant lyrics. Until the artist list is officially confirmed, explore the aforementioned bands and get even more excited for New Moon… if that’s even possible.

Happy listening!

About Kathleen Hager
I grew up a small town girl with a big personality. Born and raised in Jim Thorpe, PA (you’ve never heard of it because it’s that tiny), I was always super outgoing and made (and still make) a lot of noise with my big mouth, which made cheerleading the logical love of my life. Jumping up and down yelling on a football field in front of lots of people—perfect. Maybe that’s what cheerleading felt like at 7 years old, but throughout junior high and high school, it became what taught me how to challenge myself, where I met my best friends and where I genuinely felt talented and special. After earning a journalism degree at Temple University and eventually making the big move from Philly to NYC, I’ve gotten a chance to open a new cheer chapter in my life with AC!
