20 days, 20 scary movies….

October 6th, 2009 by Brittany Geragotelis – Comments (0)

Hello all you creep-fest fans! I don’t know about you, but HALLOWEEN is absolutely one of my FAVORITE times of the year! Seriously. I love getting dressed up (some of my past costumes have included Mary Kate Olsen, Illyria from “Angel” and Olympic gymnast Carly Patterson). And I love all the candy and treats that come along with the holiday (maybe a little too much!). But most of all, I love the SCARY side of the season.

So, to get in the spooky spirit of things, I’m going to do a countdown of my favorite scary movies of all time. Now, these flicks may not be the freakiest or even the most popular or acclaimed of the genre, but they’re MY faves.

Tune in every weekday for another movie, until we get to my favorite scary movie of all time! First up in the twentieth slot is….

JAWS (1975)

directed by Steven Spielberg; starring Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss; Rated PG

Spielberg took a fun summer activity like going to the beach and turned it into the worst vacation ever! In Jaws, the quiet island of Amity is sent swimming for the shores when a 25-foot-killer shark starts to snack on beach dwellers. After several bloody attacks, Brody makes it his mission to catch Jaws…before he becomes shark bait himself.

WHY IT’S SCARY: Hello? Giant shark, giant sharp teeth…do I really have to go on? The thing that’s so terrifying about Jaws is the fact that it could actually happen and does all the time.

SCARIEST SCENE: In the movie opener, a woman goes for a nighttime dip. As she’s floating along, all alone, she’s suddenly pulled under water. After being dragged around for a few seconds, she abruptly disappears, her screams along with her. It’s chilling!

SCARY STORY: After seeing this as a kid, I used to have nightmares that Jaws would come out of the bottom of pools and eat me. To this day, if I can’t see what’s going on beneath me in the water (any water), I freak out.

FUN FREAKY FACTS:

* The movie was filmed in Martha’s Vineyard, MA.

* The actress in the opening sequence was attached to weighted ropes and pulled around to mimic the jerking of a real shark attack.

* The mechanical shark used in the movie was nicknamed “Bruce” after Spielberg’s lawyer.

Brrr! It's cold out there! It's also very dry in the air, and dryness can suck up moisture, leaving your skin flaky, itchy and tight. Don't worry, though--- Atopalm's Moisturizing Body Lotion is the perfect remedy for a cold, dry winter blast!
