October 19th, 2009 by Brittany Geragotelis – Comments (0)

To get into the spooky spirit of things, I’m doing a countdown of my favorite scary movies of all time. Now, these flicks may not be the freakiest or even the most popular or acclaimed of the genre, but they’re MY faves.

Tune in every weekday for another movie, until we get to my favorite scary movie of all time! Now, a recap of my faves so far:

#20: Jaws

#19: The Last House on the Left

#18: The Faculty

#17: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

#16: The Exorcist

#15: The Blair Witch Project

#14: Resident Evil

#13: Poltergeist

#12: Lady In White

And coming in at number…

#11

Friday the 13th (1980)

directed by Sean S. Cunningham; starring Adrienne King & Kevin BaconRated R

*This movie may not be suitable for kids under the age of 17

FridayThe13thPosterThis movie isn’t anything like cheer camp! Friday the 13th takes place at Camp Crystal Lake, where a bunch of young coed counselors have arrived for camp training before the kids show up for the summer. What they don’t know is that someone is planning on killing off each counselor one-by-one, to avenge the death of little Jason Voorhees. See, Jason was a camper at Camp Crystal Lake before tragically drowning while two counselors were off canoodling. Now a hatchet-weilding psycho is back for revenge.

WHY IT’S SCARY: You never know who you’re going to find wandering around the woods at night…and not knowing who’s behind the mask is maddening!

SCARIEST SCENE: When Jason pops up in the very last scene. Prepare to jump!

SCARY STORY: Coincidentally, Friday the 13th is my favorite holiday (I know some of you would say it’s not a holiday, but I love to celebrate it)! Every Friday the 13th, I throw a party where my friends and I watch scary movies and eat a ton of junk food. You can have your own Friday the 13th party this Friday, November 13th!

FUN & FREAKY FACTS:

* 10 people die in this movie.

The movie was filmed at Camp Nobebosco in New Jersey. The camp is still in operation to date, and they have a wall of Friday the 13th paraphernalia to honor the fact that the movie was set there.

* The writer of the movie named the killer Jason after a former school bully.

* One of the working titles for the movie was Long Night at Camp Blood.
