To get into the spooky spirit of things, I’m doing a countdown of my favorite scary movies of all time. Now, these flicks may not be the freakiest or even the most popular or acclaimed of the genre, but they’re MY faves.

Tune in every weekday for another movie, until we get to my favorite scary movie of all time! Now, a recap of my faves so far:

#20: Jaws

#19: The Last House on the Left

#18: The Faculty

#17: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

#16: The Exorcist

#15: The Blair Witch Project

#14: Resident Evil

#13: Poltergeist

And coming in at number…

#12

Lady In White (1988)

directed by Frank LaLoggia; starring Lukas Haas; Rated PG-13

*This movie may not be suitable for kids under the age of 13

ladyinwhiteYou can’t go wrong with a movie that’s set at an old school, on Halloween night, inside a room where a murder once occurred. In Lady in White, a young boy is locked inside a cloak room (by bullies) at his school on Halloween night. While stuck inside, he witnesses the murder of a young girl ghost. Because of what he’s seen, the killer goes after him and suddenly the young boy is on a race to bring the murderer to justice and reunite the ghost girl with her mother, the Lady in White, who also haunts the town.

WHY IT’S SCARY: Just the thought of being locked up in a school at night is enough to give me major anxiety. Now add a ghost (even if it’s a good one, it’s still a ghost), a killer and a scary night and the result is a terrifying experience.

SCARIEST SCENE: When the ghost girl shows up for the first time. Creepy!

SCARY STORY: This was one of the first scary movies I was allowed to watch and I just remember that it scared me so badly I had nightmares for months. I think this was a fave among people from my generation.

I was locked in this closet and all I got was a ghost?

FUN & FREAKY FACTS:

* Katherine Helmond, who was Mona from “Who’s The Boss”, played the Lady in White.

* Director Frank LaLoggia wrote the film based on a popular local urban legend known as “The White Lady.” Legend had it that the White Lady had a daughter who disappeared at the hands of a deranged date. So, the White Lady roams the town in search of her missing daughter.

* Lukas Haas, who plays the little boy in the movie, was discovered at the age of five in his Kindergarten classroom by a casting director.
