Top 20 Favorite Scary Movies: #14

October 14th, 2009 by Brittany Geragotelis – Comments (0)

To get into the spooky spirit of things, I’m doing a countdown of my favorite scary movies of all time. Now, these flicks may not be the freakiest or even the most popular or acclaimed of the genre, but they’re MY faves.

Tune in every weekday for another movie, until we get to my favorite scary movie of all time! Now, a recap of my faves so far:

#20: Jaws

#19: The Last House on the Left

#18: The Faculty

#17: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

#16: The Exorcist

#15: The Blair Witch Project

And coming in at number…

#14

Resident Evil (2002)

directed by Paul W. S. Anderson; starring Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez & Eric Mabius; Rated R

**This movie is NOT suitable for kids under the age of 17!!

000_ResidentEvilMoviePoster_I figured that any horror movie based on a video game couldn’t be any good—but boy was I wrong! I’m already a fan of zombie-related stuff (I’m a little obsessed right now, the way some are about vampires), but this movie really had it all for me. Beautiful, kick-butt girl: check. Blood-sucking zombies: check. Totally cute boys: check. Thrills and chills: double check. In Resident Evil, a woman wakes up to find herself in a place she’s not familiar with, being attacked by people she doesn’t know and forced to flee underground with some creepy commando’s against her will. As the group makes their way deeper underground, she realizes she may be their only chance at getting out alive.

WHY IT’S SCARY: Take one confined space, add a crapload of walking dead people itching to get their teeth on your flesh and then round it out with a crazy computerized girl and you’re in for a bloody good time.

SCARIEST SCENE: The hell-dogs are pretty scary (Seriously, where did all their skin go?), but then again, turning around to see your former friend looking at you like a piece of meat is pretty scary, too.

SCARY STORY: The scene with the employees in the elevator makes me cringe every time. To this day, I still get a little anxious every time I pass through elevator doors. I’m so terrified it’s going to drop and slice me in half!

Look at my guns!

FUN & FREAKY FACTS:

* The movie was originally titled Resident Evil: Ground Zero, but was shortened to Resident Evil after the September 11th terrorist attacks.

* Paul W. S. Anderson directed one other video game inspired movie: Mortal Kombat.

* Producer Jeremy Bolt appears as a zombie several times in the movie.

* The DVD bonus’ on this movie are incredible…seriously, check it out just for that!

David Boreanaz was originally picked to play Matt Addison but turned down the part to work on  “Angel”.

Looks like they've seen a ghost...or maybe a zombie?
