A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

written & directed by Wes Craven; starring Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund & Johnny Depp; Rated R

*This movie may not be suitable for kids under the age of 17

nightmare_on_elm_streetWhen you think of boogeymen, you think of Freddy Krueger. With his frightening head to toe burn scars and knives for fingers, he is the thing of nightmares. Nancy lives on Elm street and she’s living the typical life of a teenager: hanging out with her friends, going to school and falling in love. But pretty soon, people around her begin to die—seemingly in their sleep. When she dreams of a badly burned sadistic man named Freddy and ends up with an injury she received in her dream, Nancy realizes that her nightmares won’t go away when she wakes up. Turn on this flick and whatever you do…don’t fall asleep.

WHY IT’S SCARY: All the normal stuff that makes you scared to go to bed don’t apply here, because it’s what happens once you fall asleep that’s really terrifying. The thought that if you die in your dream, you die in real life…makes you want to reach for the no-doze.

Johnny's having a killer night!

SCARIEST SCENE: When hunky Johnny Depp is pulled into his bed, never to be seen or heard from again. (So sad!).

SCARY STORY: I’d heard about Freddy Krueger before I ever saw the guy. I remember one of my most early nightmares was of a guy that was half man, half cougar and who was running after me trying to kill me with his claws. For some reason, this is who I had pictured Freddy Krueger being before I saw it. Still no clue where I got all that from.

FUN & FREAKY FACTS:

* Director Wes Craven is said to have named Freddy Krueger after a bully he knew in school and the character’s scary appearance was based on a hobo that scared him as a kid.

* Johnny Depp went along with his friend, Jackie Earle Haley to the Nightmare on Elm Street auditions, where he was discovered by Wes Craven. Coincidentally, Jackie will be playing Freddy Krueger in the upcoming remake of the film.

* The original glove was also used in the sequel, but then mysteriously went missing.

*Over 500 gallons of fake blood was used in the making of this film.

*This was Johnny Depp’s first film.

Nice night out, isn't it?

Brrr! It's cold out there! It's also very dry in the air, and dryness can suck up moisture, leaving your skin flaky, itchy and tight. Don't worry, though--- Atopalm's Moisturizing Body Lotion is the perfect remedy for a cold, dry winter blast!
