I came across a news item today that needs to be talked about. The city school board in Dothan, AL, just passed a few measures regarding cheerleading tryouts in the district’s schools. In this list of regulations is the prohibition of stunts and tumbling.
These measures were taken, according to the Dothan Eagle, “because of concerns about fair access and minority representation. The law prohibits the Dothan City School Board from setting racial quotas for its cheerleading squads, so the board has taken action in the past to broaden the potential pool of applicants for spots on its cheering squads.”
Diversity is important, but would a school board prohibit football players from tackling or volleyball players from spiking the ball? Read the list of regulations HERE, then let us know what you think. COMMENT BELOW!

That hasto be the stupidest thing I have ever heard if you are going to be a cheerleader you need to have at least a little bit of skill and how are they going to know if you have skill if you can’t stunt or tumble at tryouts?

This is crazy. To me there are some areas you can improve on as a cheerleader but some you cant. Not being able to stunt or tumble at tryouts takes the ability to have a high skilled squad away. Its like setting the cheerleaders up for failure and embarrassment.

O WOW THIS IS STUPID why not let a girl show-off what she could bring to the squad i mean isn’t that the whole entire point of tryouts???? and this just makes people think even more that all cheerleaders are are “flirts in skirts” if we don’t do anything i mean stunts and tumbling if you take those out of cheer pretty much all it is, is dance.

this is the wierdest thing ever.but in some cases it can be okay.if the tryouts dont call for tumbling they why penalize other girls who cant tryout.it gives a fair shot to everyone in the school.i mean id one girl cant tumble but is a amazing dancer and another girl has the best tumble pass in the school but isnt a good dancer.what happens if she makes it but the amazing dancer dosent. it just makes it a fair tryout for evreyone.my school can tumble but not at tryouts.
