As I sit here with a pounding headache, courtesy of my spandex headband, I think to myself ‘it’s all for the sake of fashion.’ But, are today’s fashion trends really worth all of the discomfort they so generously provide?
Thinking about my favorite parts of my wardrobe, I realize they all have two things in common: they’re basic and they’re comfortable. If this is the case, why do I also own so many too tight, too bulky, too restricting, too itchy, pieces that rarely ever see the light of day?
Trends come and go, and usually do so because they are ugly, uncomfortable, or something newer replaces them, yet we continue to buy into them. Does anyone remember popped collars? That was just weird.
Along with too-tight headbands, a few of the most painful fashion statements I own are: the toe-numbing caged heel, the high-waisted belt that restricts my breathing and the extremely itchy, black turtle neck that I bought to appear more chic and sophisticated, which turns out, just makes me look uncomfortable.
It seems like I’m trying way too hard to look cool, since I’d rather hang around in a cute tee and jeans. Although some trends are killer, literally, there are also many ways to look extremely fashionable, while still being completely comfortable. To achieve this comfortable-yet-trendy style, try duplicating some of the celeb looks below.
Megan Fox knows how to look both comfortable and cute in wedges, boyfriend jeans, a tank and a cardigan.
Beyonce Knowles jazzes up a cozy T-Shirt dress with a sequined jacket, fab black pumps and a fedora.
Miley Cyrus shows off her country roots, wearing skinny jeans tucked into comfy cowboy boots, paired with a loose tank.
Tell us about some of your favorite comfortable trends, or one’s that you think are super painful, in the comment box below!
