Today is the very sad day that I must say goodbye to the entire American Cheerleader family! (If it weren’t for my college cheerleading preseason beginning this weekend, I would love to stay for the remainder of the summer!)

As one of their interns, I had the opportunity to experience a bustling and professional environment at their magazine office in NYC.
Throughout my time at AC, I worked alongside many of the editors and received an incredible amount of feedback on my work, which is crucial to learning the ins and outs of any field. Additionally, working together and collaborating with my fellow interns truly enhanced my understanding of each assignment. When you’re learning so much information about an industry that may be unfamiliar, it’s essential to ask lots of questions and communicate with others! Each intern was put to work with a variety of assignments that exposed us to many aspects of the magazine. We were able to assist with graphic and web projects, fashion features, editorial work, and almost every element of the magazine from cover to cover!
I was so fortunate to work with such an upbeat, helpful, and warm staff. I sharpened my writing skills and learned how to operate software that’s used for designing layouts and photo spreads. By the end of my internship, I even had a few pieces published online–which is incredibly exciting!
I encourage all of you to continue to chase your dreams and take initiative when working towards a goal. With this mindset, anything you desire is within reach! Whether it be stepping up into the leadership role of your squad, nailing that standing back, or landing your dream job, all of those hours spent in preparation will pay off one day!
Best of luck with your future endeavors and lots of AC l
Love,
Bridget Slade
