Here are the hottest Homecoming trends this Fall!
by Desirée Coleman

Homecoming is the first big dance of the year and that means it’s your chance to show your school that you’re the ultimate fashionista! We’ve kept our eye on the fashion forecast for 2011 and these styles are red hot on our radar! Check out the trends below and kick off your season with the perfect Homecoming look—then get ready to take home that coveted crown.

CUT
Cocktail dresses are totally in for Homecoming this year, so a semi-formal, too-cute-to-resist party dress will ensure you’re a knockout on the dance floor. Try an empire waist and baby-doll cuts or find a flowy, over-sized dress and add your own flair with a colorful belt. Also en vogue: the ’20s flapper-style with sleek pleats and elegant beading; you can even throw in a few feathers to ruffle some of your own.

COLOR

Pick a hue that compliments your tan from summer. Focus on warm fall tones like orange, sherbet, blush and teal or represent your team by wearing your school colors—spirit is always in style.

STYLE
Give some thought to which style matches your personality. Are you fun and whimsical like a ruffley skirt? Maybe you’re classic and timeless like a little black dress? Or are you pixie-ish and statuesque like an adorable ballerina frock? Whatever your style, add a confident grin and you’re sure to own the dance floor.

FLAIR

Accessorizing has never been so much fun! Layered necklaces, bold cuff bracelets and colorful post earrings will help complete your look. Be brave with vibrancy and don’t shy away from trying something funky. Whether your hair’s sleek and straight or bouncy with curls, feathery extensions, intricate headbands and hair clips are a chic way to dress up any ’do.

HEELS
Sometimes shoes can be the hardest part of the outfit to pick out. You get to Homecoming and you want to dance, right? So pick a pair that you can comfortably move around in, while still looking stylish. Shoes can be a great opportunity to make a statement, so make a look your own with a colorful stiletto or strappy wedge. (Here’s a tip: Check out shoedazzle.com and take their style quiz. They have dozens of shoes under $40!)

EDGE
Style of the year award goes to the sassy one-sleeved look. It’s adventurous, fun, and looks great in pictures!

Gear up in all of your glitz and glamour for Homecoming and dance the night away…just make sure you save some energy to rock the sidelines at the big game!
