Four years ago, National School Spirit Day was started to shine a spotlight on all of the different ways cheerleaders and dancers impact their community. They influence their classmates, parents, teachers, neighbors and community by being mentors, service leaders and spirit raisers. They set a positive example for everyone they encounter.
Check out these “Dream Team” top participants from this year’s NSSD. They represent the thousands of you who are striving to make a difference. These teams held fundraisers for March of Dimes, created an anti-bullying campaign, helped deliver a wish through Make-A-Wish, packed lunches for hungry school kids, and so much more.

Team Spirit Prize Pack: Cosby High School
The Cosby High School cheer team took a stand against bullying and launched the “Be A Buddy, Not A Bully: All It Takes Is a Little Heart” campaign. They passed out 3,4000 hearts to their classmates, and after each student signed their name on a heart, the cheerleaders hung the hearts under a banner that read “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully.”

School Spirit Prize Pack: East Lawrence High School
East Lawrence High School students created The Backpack Program which helps feed hungry children. Every Friday, at least 25 needy elementary school students receive a bag full of food and drinks for the weekend slipped into their backpack, courtesy of the East Lawrence cheerleaders. The squad collects non-perishable foods and drinks from their classmates and community.
For more NSSD stars see our showcase list of squads that made a difference on page 28 of the December AC.
