Though this isn’t a traditional horror movie (and NO, it’s NOT a zombie movie, people!!!!), it is a thriller, which deals with the destruction of the human race as we know it, as well as some seriously pissed off people who are out for blood. In 28 Days Later, a cutie played by Cillian Murphy wakes up in an empty hospital to find that everything’s gone downhill since he landed in the emergency room. In fact, when he finally makes it outside, he discovers that most of the human population is nowhere to be found and the London he knew no longer exists. He learns that there was an outbreak of a rage virus, which turns otherwise friendly, normal, healthy people into anger-filled violent animals. Cillian, along with a group of misfits he picks up along the way, set off to find other survivors…despite the inherent danger surrounding them.
Fun & Freaky Facts:
• To capture the empty London scenes, the cast and crew had to shoot at 4am and only had an hour to get everything they needed. In order to calm down angry drivers who had to wait for the shooting to finish, director Danny Boyle sent his young daughter around to explain the situation.
• Horror scribe, Stephen King, bought out an entire showing of the movie in New York City when the film aired.
• The symbol used on the cover of this film is the international symbol for blood-borne biohazard.
• The film was shot almost entirely in sequence.
