#6: The Grudge (2004)

You may be wondering why The Grudge is in my lineup, but The Ring isn’t. To this I say…well, I just wasn’t a fan of The Ring. Now, what really got my heart racing was this gem of a remake starring one of my favorite actresses of all time (High-fives to other “Buffy” fans!), Sarah Michelle Gellar. The Grudge takes place in Tokyo and centers around an American nurse who comes to take care of an elderly woman living in a home nearby. Odd things begin to happen around the house and as Sarah Michelle’s character starts to research the place, she finds out it was the site of a murder many years before. Well, the victim still haunts the home and is pretty pissed off and dead-set on getting her revenge.

Fun & Freaky Facts:

• The open-mouthed croaking sounds that came from the ghost girl were made by director Takashi Shimizu.

• The little ghost boy is almost always found with his cat in the film. The boy who played the character in the movie was actually terrified of cats.

• Before filming, the cast and crew performed a ceremony to bless them and make sure nothing bad would happen to them during filming
