All Access with Allison: Countdown to Camp

Summer is in full swing! I can’t believe there are only a few more weeks before UCA College Cheer Camp! We haven’t gotten back together to practice as a team yet, but we have been keeping in touch and improving on our skills individually.

One of our favorite ways to keep in touch is through the GroupMe app, which allows us to keep a continuous group message going. Even though we are scattered across the country, we are able to share funny videos, offer advice and share information between our entire team and our coaches. We have also been utilizing our Facebook group to post new skills and workout videos. We’ve really been holding each other accountable, and it has been great seeing our team improve while we are apart. With two-a-day practices and camp right around the corner, we need to make sure we are as prepared and in shape as possible.

When preparing for camp, we practice stunts and pyramids to be used in our sideline, cheer and fight song. Our goal is to be as clean as possible and for each stunt to hit perfectly. This is a good opportunity for the incoming cheerleaders to get used to performing in front of others and have the chance to compete against other college teams. We did very well at camp last year, and I would love for us to continue improving and bring home some first place trophies! Camp is the first big step in our journey to UCA Nationals, and I’m excited to set the stage for another successful season.

While waiting for Alabama practices, you can probably guess what I’ve been doing … teaching UCA Cheer Camps! I’ve really enjoyed getting to work with some of the nation’s best teams and helping all of the cheerleaders learn new skills. I love having a different group of UCA Staff on each camp because I’m able to make new friends and learn from other experienced staff members. A few of my camps had other Alabama cheerleaders working with me. That was fun because we would get together to stunt, tumble or do part of our summer workouts around camp times.

Well, I cannot believe that camp is almost here. After that, it will not be long until FOOTBALL! I’m so excited to be cheering in Bryant Denny Stadium for one more year! Stay tuned to hear more about the University of Alabama’s All Girl cheerleading experiences and, as always, ROLL TIDE!
