All Access with Allison: Goodbye Football, Hello Nationals!

lsugameTwo More Months!

That’s right, UCA nationals is just two months away and I am SO excited! I cannot believe how quickly this semester is flying by! We only have one home football game left. I’m sad that football is coming to an end, but I am extremely proud of how our team has played so far this season, and hopefully we can make it to the BCS National Championship game again!

Cheering on the Crimson Tide is such a phenomenal experience, and I have to say that our last game against LSU was probably one of my favorite games I have ever cheered. The morning started off with us getting to cheer for ESPN College Gameday. It’s always so much fun reading all of the crazy fan signs. One of my favorites depicted Nick Saban on a wrecking ball with the caption, “I came in like the Crimson Tide.” That one definitely got a lot of laughs. Later at the game, the energy inside the stadium was contagious as everyone yelled and supported the team to rise up for such a big rivalry game.

Our next home game is senior night, and I am so honored that I will be recognized on the field as a senior. I’ve had the most amazing opportunity being able to cheer for the University of Alabama for the past four years – I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

So like I said, two months. We have been working very hard in preparation for nationals. Extra practices and extended practice times have been added to our schedule so that we can get in as much work as possible. We have even been incorporating our nationals routine into our workouts! Whenever we run stairs, the entire team has to say the words to our cheer while running up and down the stairs on our last set. I have to admit, it does feel a lot like having to yell the words in the middle of the routine. With all of this practice, our coach Brandon expects us to be VERY LOUD when performing our cheer.

Because of all of the hard work we’ve been doing, our last performance went really well! There were definitely some jitters, but that’s why it’s important to put ourselves in front of a crowd as much as possible so we can get a feel for what nationals will be like.

Recently, we’ve been focusing on our second routine which will be performed during halftime at a men’s basketball game. For this routine, we are working with the coed team to put together a UCA college camp demo-type performance. Both teams will be working together to show off parts of our nationals routines, tumbling and stunts. We will also showcase this routine at our stunt clinic coming up on November 24th. I love working with the coed team because it gives us a chance to bond inside of practice and really encourage each other.

Aside from preparing for our performances, we have also started stepping up our skill level for the pyramids in our routine. We are definitely progressing from the pyramids we displayed at our last showcase, and I can’t wait until you all can see what we’re working on!

With only a few weeks of school left, I am so ready to get past final exams so that I can focus all of my energy on cheerleading. It has been a tough semester, but I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel. Plus, with Christmas music already playing on the radio and all of the decorations I have set up around my house, I’ve been in a pretty cheery mood lately! Also, I am so excited for the opportunity to go home over Thanksgiving break. I haven’t been able to go home since August, so I’m pretty pumped about not only getting to see my family, but also getting to eat some awesome food! So until next time, ROLL TIDE!
