All Access with Hailey: Crazy for Competition

Hey AC Readers! WOW, what a crazy Nationals season! So much has happened since my last blog, including Orange attending CHEERSPORT Nationals, NCA Nationals and UCA Nationals! It has been a very busy and fun-filled couple of months in the All Star cheer industry. It’s definitely my favorite time of year because our routines are getting more consistent, we get to see our cheer friends from across the country and we finally get to go up against several teams in the Large Senior 5 division!

CHEERSPORT was fun for me because it’s right here in my city, Atlanta, GA. On the Friday before CHEERSPORT, we open up our gym so teams coming to Nationals can practice at our facility. We also open the pro-shop so everyone can purchase Stingrays shirts! Casey Jones, the owner, allowed me to set up a fundraising table to sell my crafts to raise money for House of Hope Haiti. I was able to collect over $500 with the support of so many cheerleaders and parents! It was awesome to meet new friends and help others at the same time.

CHEERSPORT was a good competition for Orange. We competed against two other teams, the World Cup Shooting Stars and KC Cheer Fearless. We had some minor mistakes both days and finished in 2nd place behind World Cup. But overall, we had two really great performances and got right back in the gym to work hard for NCA.

NCA Nationals in Dallas, TX is like a “mini Worlds” for Orange because this is when we compete against almost all of the teams who will be in our division at Worlds. There were a total of five teams in Large Senior 5 this year, including Orange, World Cup Shooting Stars, Cheer Extreme Senior Elite, Cheer Tyme Love and Cheer Athletics Panthers.  This was not our best competition this year as a team. We had several mistakes both days and finished in 4th place, but we didn’t let that discourage us for long. Back into the gym we went with a renewed commitment to our team, coaches and each other!

After two intense weeks of preparation, Orange traveled down to Orlando for UCA Nationals and once again competed against World Cup Shooting Stars and KC Cheer Fearless. We had a few small mistakes on Day 1, which put us in 2nd place going into Day 2. We knew we would have to bring everything we had on Day 2 to pull out a win. And that’s exactly what happened!  Both Orange and World Cup had minor errors on Day 2, but the scores ended up in our favor. Orange is your Large Senior Level 5 UCA National Champions! I have never been more proud of my team!

So now we move into Worlds season. Orange is back in the gym, hard at work to prepare for the USASF Cheerleading Worlds. We are making several changes to raise our score and will be practicing a lot more than usual to prepare. Orange is committed to bringing our best the rest of the season, and we plan on putting on quite a show for all of our fans in April. Until next time, CHEERS and HAPPY SPRING!
