All Access with Jasmine: Welcome to Senior Year
Hey AC Readers! I hope school has gotten off to a great start for all of you because it is going great for me so far! This is my senior year here at the University of Georgia, so I am looking forward to an awesome year full of accomplishments in academics, cheerleading and adventures with my family and friends. I am thrilled that I can share this with you all by continuing my American Cheerleader blogs!
Let’s rewind to two weekends ago. The Small Dawgs took our talents to NCA College Cheerleading Camp in Myrtle Beach, SC. At camp we showcased a game day performance and rally routine. The game day routine consisted of several signs, megaphones, pom changes, three massive super “G” flags and creative Cartwheel Ups to Shoulder Sits! This routine is something we can use at football games because it allows the crowd to cheer and interact with us. The rally routine is my favorite part of camp because it’s the closest thing to competitive cheerleading, which is my personal favorite! Ours opened with a tumbling sequence, including synchronized Fulls to the front, followed by a stunt sequence. Next was a motion sequence, which we learned at camp and lastly, an ending section of baskets and standing tumbling.
Overall, our weekend spent at camp was great! We ended up winning Most Collegiate for the entire camp, which is a big accomplishment for us because we take pride in the way we present ourselves to those around us. We also won the rally routine for our division, while ranking third highest in game day and also ranking third highest in the camp overall! We had 13 members of our team make All-American and, most importantly, we accomplished our biggest goal – getting a gold bid to NCA College Nationals!
Now let’s bring it back to current day. The week before school started we had two-a-days to start preparing for our first football game against Clemson. We worked on a lot of band dances, cheers, chants and stunts, which is the majority of what we do when we are on the football field. The veterans and rookies all look great so far and I can’t wait to take on the Clemson Tigers!
Have a great week and Go Dawgs!
