Brainiac

Who doesn’t love a good throwback? At the “geriatric” age of 22, I certainly can’t resist channeling my inner child when a good blast from the past comes my way—or for the other 23.5 hours of the day for that matter. Being a sort of self proclaimed trivia whiz, I was a huge fan of “Brain Quest” (BQ) back in the day and admittedly still love it.

Picture it, February 20, 1996. I’m in the fourth grade and it’s my first day at my new school. During our free time, some girls ask me to join them for a game of BQ. I agree and the first question came my way: what is 2-3? After a long deliberation I gave my answer: -1. A wave of shock and awe hit the crowd… “Woah, that girl knows negative numbers!” From that point on I knew I was a BQ champion, and a lifetime of trivia mastery began. But I digress.

One of the perks of being an intern at AC is getting to go to fun press events. Free goodies aside, these are a lot of fun because you get to see things before they come out. Just last week I had the pleasure of going to an event hosted by EA games. For many, it was paradise, three rooms of non-stop video game action. Not being a huge gamer myself, I was sort of observing when out of the corner of my eye I saw it; BQ! After immersing myself in those delightful trivia cards, a young man approached me and showed me a bunch of Nintendo DS systems. Such delight and wonder did my eyes behold; BQ had gone electronic! It was the greatest thing since sliced bread and organic peanut butter. Now I could have 6,000 BQ questions on call at all times. That’s like five of the old decks!

To all my wired in girls out there who aren’t ashamed to still play kids’ games, this one’s for you! Run out and buy your copy this fall and relish in the glory of your youthful nerdiness. You won’t be disappointed.

xoxo,
Becca
