All Access with Jasmine: Happy Holidays!
The past few weeks I have been swamped with final exams, but I am relieved to say that I am done with fall semester and am looking forward to relaxing and spending some much needed time with family and friends during this holiday season! My last cheerleading update was pretty exciting and came during the peak of football season. But this time it’s about a minor setback—yikes!
Since my last blog, I have been taking it easy because I injured my left ankle. During one of our practices I noticed a weird pain in my ankle after tumbling. I didn’t pay it much attention until it was a little too late and a little too swollen to walk on. For precautionary reasons, I was put in a black boot and I will be hobbling around until January. I absolutely hate sitting out of practices because I feel like I am missing out on so much practice time.
Although I hate to admit it, this injury has taught me two really important things since it’s technically my first time, in 13 years of cheering, being injured. First, sitting out due to injury has taught me to pay closer attention to my body. After all, I don’t want to be 25 years old and aching from an ankle injury from five years ago. Second, it has taught me to keep a positive spirit even when I am unable to participate in practice. Sitting out and watching my teammates practice without me is kind of upsetting because I know that I belong on the floor with them. Nevertheless, I cheer everyone on as they stunt and tumble throughout practice. It is actually pretty nice to step back and see the kind of talent we have been producing this past semester. All of my teammates’ hard work makes me even prouder to be a part of this amazingly skilled group. Currently, my ankle feels fine, and I’m really excited to get back into tumbling just in time for my favorite season—NCA College Nationals season!
Okay, now let’s switch gears back to football! Our football team was selected to play in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida on January 1st. I am super pumped because last year’s bowl game was tons of fun. We got to go to the happiest place on earth—Disney world—and we walked in a parade. The funny thing about it was that it rained during the entire parade. We could not stop laughing as we walked through the downpour. Our makeup was running all over our faces and our hair was unsightly, but it definitely left us with some good memories. With that being said, I can’t wait to see what great things the Gator Bowl has in store for us!
Well, that’s all I have for now. I hope each and every one of you enjoy the time with your families, get some cool presents, drink lots of hot chocolate and decorate your Christmas trees with as much glitter and glitz as possible! Haha! Happy Holidays and GOOOOOOO DAWGS!
