Hundreds of Cheerleaders Rally Together to Support Iraan
In the wake of troubling times, the Braves from Iraan, Texas have received an outpouring of support from cheerleaders across the state.
Less than two weeks ago, the Iraan High School cheerleaders suffered a tremendous loss after a tragic bus accident took the life of one of their sponsors and left six cheerleaders and another sponsor injured. The team was fresh off a state playoff victory, traveling back to Iraan together when the accident happened.
Upon hearing the news, squads from all over Texas and even New Mexico took it upon themselves to gather together in support of the Iraan community. More than 700 cheerleaders from over 80 squads traveled to Abilene, Texas to pack the stadium for Iraan’s state semifinal game on December 9.
The Abilene High School squad teamed up with local restaurants to help plan and host dinner for the Iraan cheerleaders and their hundreds of supporters before the game. Varsity Spirit donated red and black shaker poms for the volunteer cheerleaders and Braves fans that filled the stands. Signs and cheers flooded the stadium, even from the opponent’s side.
The overwhelming show of support and encouragement can only be explained by the heart of the hundreds of cheerleaders eager to lift the spirits of those in need. It’s what cheerleading is all about – supporting each other during the down times and encouraging others to rally around a cause.
Iraan’s football team won their semifinal game to advance to the state championship. That game takes place today, December 15. Good luck to the Braves! Today, we are all #IraanStrong.
