This October, the Sparkle Effect team at Springfield High School in Ohio received a very exciting surprise from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Members of the Cavalier Girls dance team, the Scream Team (another dance team) and the Q Spirit Squad (the Cavaliers’ cheerleaders) traveled to Springfield High School to meet the Sparkles. The Cavalier spirit teams sat in on a practice, had a dance party with the team, and helped them prepare for a routine for the opportunity of a lifetime – to cheer in front of thousands of fans at an upcoming Cavaliers game!
The Sparkles had a week to perfect their routine, and on October 29 made the trek from Springfield (a suburb of Columbus) to Quicken Loans arena to see the Cavs take on the Orlando Magic. The Sparkles arrived long before the gates open so they could spend plenty of time getting ready with the other spirit programs. The Cavaliers set up hair and makeup stations for the Springfield Sparkles, and (of course) plenty of room for a pre-game dance party.
Right before the game, the Springfield Sparkles went out on to the floor to pump up the crowd with their pre-game performance. Then, the Sparkles were given the honor of holding the American flag during the National Anthem.
The Cavaliers is the second professional sports program to join forces with The Sparkle Effect. In 2015, the Cleveland Browns signed on to sponsor Sparkle Effect teams in the Cleveland area and have likewise invited teams to perform on game day. The Sparkle Effect is excited to continue partnering with the Browns and Cavaliers to provide more unforgettable experiences for inclusive cheer and dance teams.
