Congratulations to T. Lynn Williamson of the University of Kentucky, winner of the 2015 Sue Feamster Trailblazer Award. As the university’s current cheerleading advisor and Senior General Counsel for the UK Legal Office, Williamson has helped lead the Blue Squad to 20 National Championships in his 40 years there.
“T. Lynn is especially deserving of this award,” Feamster said. “He initiated and is a founding board member of the American Cheerleaders Association and Advisors. He has been a leading advocate of safety and the education of liability and risk management for cheerleading. His long-term commitment to the development of cheerleading activity has been remarkable. He has set the standard for excellence and safety and has earned the respect of his peers, nationwide.”
Williamson was honored with the award at the UK women’s basketball game on Sunday, where present and past Wildcat cheerleaders joined him on the court.
“I have always considered the primary role of advisor to this program to be the role of a life coach,” Williamson shared. “While championships are nice, what this experience at UK is all about is two things: (1) getting an education, which means getting a degree; and (2) becoming a mature and responsible adult, which means learning life lessons. I call that Absolute Responsibility.”
